Welcome!

DIY teaches the life changing power of working together, one completely original show at a time.

Because COLLABORATIVE STORYTELLING is the most human thing.

Like a Secret Handshake.

DIY isn't really an acting class or a theater school. It's a theater company for young people.

The funny thing is that DIY is named wrong. You don't do it yourself. You do it together. (But DIT looked weird.)

Remember putting on a play in the backyard with your friends? Starting with just an idea, shouting “yes! and then…” at each other, layering dances, costumes, jokes, sound effects, funny hats - taking it incredibly seriously then forcing your parents to watch? DIY is like that.

Like a secret handshake you work really hard to perfect only because it’s yours, shared.

We meet twice a week: We slowly build an entire, beautiful show from scratch, piece by piece until it's ready to share.

Then we perform it for our loved ones, take a bow, have a party, and start dreaming up the next one.

The Process is the Purpose.

I spent my childhood performing in plays at theaters around Seattle, finding a home in those communities and places - and I’ve been lucky enough to spend my life making stories with other people.

Along the way, I learned how to collaborate. How to listen. How to offer an idea. And, more importantly, how to let go of one. How to work incredibly hard on something that, in the grand scheme of things, wasn't all that important. Except to us.

What I discovered is that the work itself is everything. The process is the purpose. No matter where I am nor who I’m collaborating with, building a story together remains the most gratifying thing I know.

Because collaborative storytelling is the most human thing.
